dc.description.abstractThe novel takes place in Norway in the province of Telemark on the coast of the Skagerrak between the Jutland and the Scandinavian Peninsula. Here the widow Hansen runs the inn. He has his daughter Hulda at hand, while her son Joël works as a mountain guide for tourists. Hulda is looking forward to the return of a Viking fisherman named Ole Kamp, who is her fiancé. The country idyll is disturbed by an unpleasant guest, Mr. Sandgoist, whom he has a secret with Hansen's widow. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the wedding of Hulda and Ole, as the arrival of the Viking is imminent. But day after day passes and the ship is nowhere ...en_US
