dc.description.abstract | Tartuffe is a sharply satirical comedy written by the French playwright Molière, connected with the political situation in France in the mid-17th century. The game criticizes the church and has long been banned. Tartuffa takes place in the Orgon House in Paris in the second half of the 17th century. In the church, Mr. Orgon recognizes and loves the sight of the pious beggar Tartuff, whom he takes to live with. Tartuffe wraps Orgon around his finger with his seemingly soaring talk about God. In vain, the whole family tries to explain to Orgon what a hypocrite and a liar Tartuffe is. Orgon is blind and deaf. Together with his mother, Mrs. Pernell, he fanatically believes everything Tartuffe tells them. It all culminates in Orgon's decision to marry his only daughter, Mariana, to Tartuff.
