Title: Our Mutal Friend
Authors: Dickens, Charles
Keywords: novel
Issue Date: 2021
Abstract: The last novel completed by Charles Dickens and is one of his most sophisticated works, combines savage satire with social analysis. Dickens tells a complex story full of mystery, intrigue, conspiracy, betrayal, love, greed and unexpected unravelings, still the main, partly hidden idea is that everything turns about money. Our mutual friend tells the story of two couples who, in order to be lucky, have to overcome a number of obstacles - a preconceived society, their own desires or a mysterious past. Higher social lawyer Eugene Wrayburn falls in love with Lizzie Hexam, the daughter of a man whose job is to hunt dead bodies from the Thames and who is among the lowest of the lowest. In addition to social prejudices, teacher Bradley Headstone stands in their way, who, out of love for Lizzie, gets on the verge of madness and does not hesitate to stop even before the murder in order to get Lizzie.
