Abstract: During the American Civil War "North vs. South", a group of five Northerners led by Cyrus Smith escaped from southern captivity with a balloon. Their balloon is driven by a whirlwind over the sea, where it is destroyed; The refugees are rescued on a desert island in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,000 km from the nearest inhabited place, the Polynesian islands. After ensuring a bare life, the castaways will use all their scientific and technical knowledge and the natural conditions of the island to build a comfortable residence. The group of castaways includes various professions (engineer, carpenter, journalist, naturalist), in addition to the juvenile boy, there is also a black man and later even a former convict Ayrton (a character from Verne's novel Captain Grant's Children) found by the castaways on the nearby island of Tabor. They will all join forces to overcome the difficulties of their position and control nature for their own benefit.
